Soccer
by Connor and Darren (both from 6th class)
Our school soccer pitch is in Cam community centre.
The school colours are blue and yellow. Our coach is Kevin Sheehy.
We also used to have training during school. The trainers come every second Friday.

Our trainer's name is Keith. He taught us a lot of drills.
We also got to a county final last year. We beat Ardkeenan, Taughmaconnell and Ballyforan.
We then beat Creggs on penalties in the semi-final.
We then played Cloonfad in the final.
Our captain was Darragh Sheehy and Darren King was our goalkeeper.
We lost in the final. The final score was 2 - 0 but we still got nice runners up medals.

We also enter in soccer skills competitions and have been successful in the past.
Boys and girls play soccer in our school. Each lunch time we play in the school yard.
Soccer is certainly a popular sport in our school.

Samba Soccer Skills
On the 14th of March 2001 two Brazilian players came to our school to show us some soccer skills.
Their names were Cassiano Costa and Allessandra Gailey.
They are teaching young children in Ireland Latin soccer skills
Cassiano Costa was born into the poverty stricken shacks of Sorocaba near Sao Paolo 24 years ago.

Like other kids he spent his days in the streets .
Cassiano and his friends would kick stones around the streets.
There were no rules, no referees and no premier league. He was talented.
When he was six years old he took possession of a ball from another street kid,
controlled it, turned, and fired it past a nominated goalie.
A local teacher saw him and this was the moment his life really began.

Allessandra Gailey was born 20 years ago into a well off family in Sao Paolo.
She went to a nice school and played volley ball, but the outbreak of football fever
that swept the planet in 1990 World Cup was to transform her life forever.
They are now part of a team of coaches who will be involved in teaching Irish kids
how to have fun with a ball at specially organized Samba Soccer Summer Camps.

They will be running camps all over Ireland for young people this summer.
We enjoyed listening and watching their skill. Some of our friends tried these skills and had great fun.
Darren even won some Samba shorts and shirt.
