Junior Achievement
Junior Achievement Inc, is a non-profit organisation financed by businesses usually adjacent to the school. In our school this programme was funded by Elan. The purpose of Junior Achievement is to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business and economics to improve the quality of their lives.
This year classes from Junior infants, Senior infants and first class chose the module "Our Families".This programme heightened the student's awareness of the importance of each person's economic role within the family. Every family member must take responsibility , co-operate with others and generally ensure "The Family" is a good place to be.
Second, third and fourth classes chose "Our Community". This programme examined the responsibilities and opportunities to those within our community. The value of the worker as a contributing member of the community was explored.
Last year fifth and sixth class participated in "Personal Economics" programme. This module helped students assess their personal skills and interests, explore career options, learn job-hunting skills, and practice personal and family financial management.
The end result was that all students had a better understanding of the relationship between what they learn at school and their successful participation in the family, community and wider world. In a nutshell they learned the importance of education for career development. All students received a "Certificate of Achievement".
