Gaelic

By Darragh( 6th class) and Eoin (5th class)

 

We play gaelic in Brideswell N.S. every year. It starts in May (the matches).

We start training in April. Gaelic is the main sport in Brideswell N.S.

It is mixed teams so boys and girls can play.We play in the 3/4 teacher school league.

Our team colours are blue and yellow. We play and train in our own pitch in Cam.

We got to the south county final last year.

We beat Bealnamulla, Four roads and Feevagh to get to the South county final.

Conor Byrne was the captain in the final. Trevor Doyle was the top scorer for the games.

Kevin Sheehy was trainer and manager. We lost to Ardkeenan in the south county final.

We were very disapointed but glad we got that far.

We could not have played without the support of the teachers.

The president of the GAA, Joe McDonagh (pictured centre) visited St. Brigid's centre and our school went to meet him. He encouraged us to keep playing our national games.

 

South Roscommon County Final, 2001

 

On the 22nd of May 2001, Brideswell played Ardkeenan in the south Roscommon county final, it was played in Johnstown. We won the match by six points, the score was 3-6 to 5-6. It was a very good clean game. The captain was Darragh Sheehy. We thank Kevin Sheehy our manager and principal Ms. Gilligan who brought us all the way to the south county final and hopefully to the county final and even further...
